The Chief Science Officers (CSO) Program has grown significantly, now encompassing multiple regions around the world. This student-led initiative provides a unique platform for young leaders to represent their communities and contribute valuable ideas to the program. Being elected as a CSO to represent a school is an extraordinary opportunity to influence the campus STEM culture positively.
The International Leadership Council (ILC) offers selected CSOs the chance to further develop the CSO Program by training and mentoring fellow CSOs. Members of the ILC collaborate closely with the Cabinet Coordinator, Regional Lead, CSO International, and other Leadership Council members. This role requires additional training and a commitment of time, including cabinet and regional event planning, monthly check-in meetings, and CSO Saturdays. ILC members are expected to serve on the council for a minimum of two years.
Requirements to Join the ILC:
- Must have been a CSO for at least one year (exceptions may be made for new regions)
- Must be in 7th-10th grade during the 2024/2025 school year (11th or 12th grade if returning)
- Must have completed all required forms and CSO responsibilities for the 2023/2024 school year
- Must demonstrate leadership skills and an interest in becoming more involved in the program
Roles and Responsibilities of an ILC Member:
- Complete Level 2 CSO Training (scheduled for summer or fall of 2024)
- Attend monthly check-in meetings
- Help lead Regional Leadership Training Institutes (LTIs) and Cabinet meetings
- Help lead CSO Saturdays
- Volunteer to help at CSO events
- Undertake any additional tasks assigned by the region
CSOs are recommended for the ILC by the Regional Lead or Cabinet Coordinator. Following this recommendation, they must submit an application, schedule an interview, and provide a letter of recommendation.
Joining the ILC is a remarkable opportunity for young leaders to grow, make a difference in their communities, and help shape the future of the CSO Program.
