CSO Yolanda, Oregon, USA

Hello I’m Chief Science Officer Yolanda from Nyssa High School in Nyssa, Oregon.

I cannot begin to explain how much the  week in Washington, D.C. for the 2nd Annual CSO International Summit has meant to me as one of 6 Oregon delegates. I am proud to have had the opportunity to represent my state during an incredible experience. I’ve created so many beautiful friendships with people from all over the world and grown so much personally.

During this time I’ve learned much about myself, who I truly am not only as a STEM advocate but even as a person and I’ve seen my confidence flourish.

Being in Washington D.C. this week for the Second Annual International Summit was very overwhelming. I was able to go to a lot of astonishing places. I interacted with many amazing and important STEM professionals that a 16 year old would probably never have the chance to meet. During this week I felt  important and that my opinion matters regardless of my age! I can make a difference in the world, especially if I truly believe in myself.

I’m so thankful for everyone that was here with me through the week and made it one of the best ones I’ve had this year. Thank you for being  a part my personal growth and supporting the development of my leadership skills.

I feel very optimistic of what my future holds and although I’m very sad the summit had to end, I couldn’t be any more grateful for this beautiful and unique opportunity.

Thank you Kelly, Jake and all the other people that made this entire week possible! Thank you for believing and inspiring us to be greater people than we ever anticipated.
