Their CSO plan included starting a STEM Club and they have partnered with Cochise County 4-H to host robotics lessons.  Mr. Eric Thoutt and Willcox High School student, Laura Dunham are leading the instruction for 23 7th and 8th graders from Willcox Middle, Cochise Elementary and Bowie Unified School District that plan to meet for 10 classes.

Students will spend an hour after school on Tuesdays and with the help of 4-H, a youth development program and part of the Cochise County Cooperative Extension, focused on Robotics Basics.  The University of Arizona also supports the SPecial INterest (SPIN) Club focused on learning how to build a robot using a LEGO®  MINDSTORMS® robotics kit, and how to program a LEGO® robot to interact with it’s environment.  All activities are based on the LEGO® EV3 system.

Once the students complete the 10 classes, they will participate in a Showcase on February 4th at Willcox Middle School Gym at 4 p.m.  If you are interested in becoming a judge or supporting the Chief Science Officers at WMS, please contact CSO Advisor – Rebecca Bhasme.  <rebecca.bhasme@wusd13.org>
