By PA CSO Blake

On June 28th, I was asked to help design the Pennsylvania Chief Science Officer’s (CSO) website. At the time, I was still fairly new to the CSO program, but I said I would help.
Not only did I agree to assist with this project to expand my skills and knowledge of the CSO program—I also just so I could try something new. I have dipped my toes in website design before but nothing at this scale, only small personal projects.
I was invited to the Montgomery County Intermediate Unit (IU) on July 8th, where I got to meet the team I would be working with. While at the IU, we discussed what a website is, how a website is created, and what is okay and what is frowned upon. We discussed templates, color schemes, and sectioned the work between three people, myself included. I wanted this to be perfect.
From then to September 12th, I worked on perfecting the “Contact Us” page. I went through and added every IU in Pennsylvania, along with the needed contact information, and an interactive map to help those who don’t know, find their IU. This experience of building my first public website and having to work together with a team was very interesting and educational. I even learned basic website development skills that I will now be able to carry with me for the rest of my life.
If I had the chance, I would do this again in a heartbeat!
