Chief Science Officers from Phoenix Union High Schools and their teachers were joined by Mr. Claudio Coria, Executive Director of Leadership at the district, Jedi Mentors Reginald Jackson (State Farm), Dan Mahaffey (Pinnacle Transplant), and Jessica Hauer (ASU Science is Fun), and the CSO project team for the first ever Phoenix Union STEM Council meeting.
At this meeting, Mr. Coria led the students and teachers through an activity to define the district’s “STEM Vision”, CSOs worked in small location-based groups to develop regional identities, and the initial brainstorming for a district-wide STEM event took place. The next district-wide PUHSD STEM Council meeting is scheduled to be in January, while regional CSO teams will be meeting locally in the interim. A huge thanks to the Arizona Community Foundation for making this ground-breaking work possible!
